I've been reading up about baby and child sleep patterns ever since I conceived my daughter. As a new mum with no experience with babies and no help whatsoever, I absolutely had to know about the sleep patterns of babies, as a healthy sleep pattern is something that helps babies in all aspects - growth, mental and physical development and all aspects of growing up.
My daughter had a difficult time sleeping and I, as a mother, had a hard time putting her to bed - the pattern still continues, though we are trying.
Here's what a baby's sleep pattern should be like:
Of course not all babies will have the same sleep pattern, so don't go by the following information literally, it's okay if it varies a little or goes a little here and there for your baby......
1 month baby - sleep a total of 16 hours (8 hours at night + 8 hours in the day)
3 month baby - sleep a total of 15 hours (10 hours at night + 6 hours in the day)
6 month baby - sleep a total of 14 to 15 hours (11 hours at night + 4 hours in the day)
9 month baby - sleep a total of 14 hours (11 hours at night + 3 hours in the day)
12month baby - sleep a total of 13 hours (11 hours at night + 2 hours in the day)
18month baby - sleep a total of 13 hours (11 hours at night + 2 hours in the day)
2 year baby - sleep a total of 13 hours (11 hours at night + 2 hours in the day)
3 year baby - sleep a total of 12 hours (10 hours at night + 2 hours in the day)
