We've all been there and done that and know we'll have to keep doing it over and over again. Well, I'm talking about the millions of times that we are required to juggle a multitude of tasks and try to create that perfect work and home balance, something that still continues to evade me, to this day.
Okay, so I won't call myself a control freak, but come on, who doesn't like a bit of sanity and some control, right? With the changing pace of life though, that can be quite a difficult one. So it was quite an interesting idea when I got this mail from Mary Brown, from Admire Moms a new online platform where moms can hang out and get a lot of information about various topics that they can relate to, such as parenting, traveling with kids, lifestyle, beauty, fashion, food and more. Mary wanted to share a guest post with us at My Little One And Me and one of the things she wanted to talk about was the importance of organization in our lives, and how it can help us as moms.
So without further ado, here's to Mary.....

Balancing your job with kids, laundry, cooking, shopping, workout and a fulsome social life can be super stressful. No matter how hard you try, the probability of things piling up is quite high. So, what’s the solution? Just focus on the priorities and ignore the rest.
Challenges And Confrontation
For a mother, the challenges are many - both at home and in office. In between dealing with temper tantrums, sibling rivalry, bullying, bed-wetting, potty training, homework, exams and illnesses, you have to ensure your kids eat properly, sleep well and your home is spick and span. On the work-front, you need to keep up-to-date and stay above par in your field of expertise. Juggling several tasks all at once can burn you out speedily. Being organized seems to be the only solution.
Strategies For Organizing Your Life
Once your organizing tools are all set to take up the challenge, you can begin to formulate strategies to organize your life. A good start would be to de-clutter your office desk, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Just keep in mind four rules to put these spaces in order:
1. Eliminate anything that you don’t need.
2. Sort out the remaining into categories.
3. Arrange them properly.
4. Whenever you pull out something for use be sure to put it back in the same place.
Inculcate Positive Habits
Inculcate some good habits to make sure you don’t lose track.
- Note down all to-do in a diary and check it often during the day.
- Don't leave things until the last minute and always keep extra time for travel and emergencies.
- Be realistic while allocating time for finishing off tasks.
- Finally, establish a morning and evening routine.
Morning:
- As soon as you get out of bed, tidy up your bedroom.
- Spend the next 15 to 30 minutes in cleaning the entire house. You can also delegate the organizing tasks to each member of your family, so you won’t be losing your precious time.
- Also remember to keep the workstations, such as sink and dining table, free of clutter. Don’t allow your laundry or dishes to heap up and keep your home as neat and tidy as you can.
- Back from office, check your diary and make preparations for the next day.
- While cooking, cook an extra healthy meal if you have time and freeze it.
- Once you’re done with dinner, clean the kitchen area and set up the breakfast table for the morning.
- Charge your phone and hang out the clothes you would be wearing the next morning.
- Try to sleep on time so that you don’t get up late.
- Complete all the scheduled tasks for the day. Avoid doing everything on your own, learn to delegate.
- Respond to emails as soon as they arrive.
- Create a centralized information center that will help you coordinate better with co-workers and minimize the possibilities of conflicts and delay.
- Once you are ready to leave office, look back to ensure your desk is tidy and sorted.
Striking A Balance Between Home And Office
- Keep all your usernames, passwords and other sensitive data safely in one place.
- Unsubscribe newsletters, magazines and other subscriptions that are of no use.
- Create an inventory for home and avoid over-stocking. Label all stored food and perishables, complete with quantity and expiry date.
- Formulate daily, weekly and monthly schedules to establish a routine.
- Always have a bucket list for the weekend ready so that you can enjoy yourself to the fullest.
