Domestos and the Unilever Foundation have partnered with UNICEF to improve access to basic sanitation that will impact hundreds of thousands of people. The two brands are supporting UNICEF’s Community Approaches to Total Sanitation (CATS) program.  

What is CATS?

The CATS Program aims to work towards behaviour change to promote healthy hygiene practices and create a demand for access to toilets. It aims at raising awareness of the sanitation crisis in order to reduce disease transmission.

Some hard facts:

• There are about 2.5 billion people globally (37% of world population) without proper access to safe sanitation
• Access to improved sanitation is a basic right as per the United Nations
• The CATS program is working in 50 countries and improved lives of 13.5 million people
• In select countries, DOMESTOS is contributing 5% of its proceeds from sale of ‘specially-marked bottles.’ This will aid UNICEF’S CATS program in the Philppines, South Sudan and Vietnam. It will also help improve sanitation in India, Indonesia and Brazil.
• Thanks to the programme so far, schoolchildren are being reached with sanitation, safe water and hygiene facilities in Ghana, Nicaragua and Sudan.
